Interface Designer Collaboration
The M.O.R.T. was my first attempt at building a functional sequencer & synthesizer. It was the result of three or four months of audio programming exploration. Overall, I was quite happy with the result and the response from readers. Over fifty mini compositions have been created and saved by people visiting the site. It was mentioned in quite a few Tweets and got a write up on Audio Silver Lining. Not too bad for something I thought of as a simple prototype/experiment.
Well, the time has come to build the next version of the M.O.R.T. synthesizer. In addition to a handful of new features the next version will have a much nicer interface design, which is the reason for this post.
Sometimes I like to pretend that I know what I’m doing in Photoshop or Illustrator, but ultimately my time is better spent with a text editor and a compiler. So, I’m looking for someone to collaborate with in designing the next version of the M.O.R.T.
The scope of the next version is still in definition. One of the most significant new features will be creating an actual site ( or sub-domain ) for the synth, complete with user accounts, saving, editing and exporting compositions as .wav files. It would be great to work with someone who had some insights into audio applications and wanted to brainstorm and explore features. I’d also like to work on a more general visual identity pattern for additional tools and services.

Personally I’m a fan of old school synthesizer designs. The gallery below contains some vintage interfaces as well as some more modern designs that definitely reference their predecessors.

That all sounds great Jeremy – the MORT 2.0 sounds like it could be pretty special. I’d offer to help, but my design skills are pretty limited.
For advice on this sort of project, I’d definitely get in touch with Andre Michelle and Joa Ebert – a couple of the guys behind the amazing Hobnox Audiotool.
Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words and advice. If you find some time, perhaps we could chat a bit about midi integration.
